The KONA-SD and KONA-HD do
away with the need to spend serious
money on a nonlinear editing suite or
to buy software you don't need as part
of a package. These affordable cards
can be used with Apple's Power Mac™
G4, RAID storage, computer display,
and video monitor, along with Final Cut
Pro 3, to achieve the same editing
quality as an expensive turnkey suite.
The KONA-SD and KONA-HD cards can
be purchased seperately or through a
dealer who can customize a hardware
and software package to meet your
exact needs.
Graphics designers who edit and
editors who design will go nuts about
KONA's blending of tools that allow true
10-bit uncompressed video quality for
use with 2- and 3-D graphic design
programs and editing programs such as
Apple's Final Cut Pro 3. Computer and
video monitors provide split-screen
function that allows Photoshop, After
Effects, and real-time effects without
rendering before output to video.
One of the most popular features of
the KONA cards is their ability to use the
video monitor as a second Mac monitor.
This desktop view bring full graphic
function the the editing (and vice versa)
by providing a real-time view of
graphics in video. The KONA desktop
lets you drag graphics from programs
like Adobe Photoshop or After Effects
from the computer display to the video
monitor. Click the full-screen button
and you paint full frame and live onto
a broadcast monitor and to final output
with what-you-see-is-what-you-get
quality. This clever feature lets you
output virtually anything to video,
including Microsoft® PowerPoint®
presentations.
The KONA-SD and HD are the first
QuickTime™ boards with hardware and
software designed specifically for the
Mac OS X operating system. By
working with Apple's powerful new OS
right from the start, we've been able to
incorporate the advanced features and
operating efficiency of OS X to create
maximum performance, speed, and
stability - critical advantages in a
production environment.

Both the KONA-SD and KONA-HD
support native 10-bit resolution - the
maximum allowed in SMPTE SDI and
HD-SDI standards. Using the QuickTime
V210 10-bit YUV format, KONA captures
directly to space efficient 10-bit files on
disk. Because KONA works in a native
YUV format, clips that have not been
processed with effects are output as
exact clones of the original digital input
-- the ultimate in quality. Even when
working with graphics/effecst programs
like Adobe After Effects in 8-bit RGB,
KONA's 10-bit video/8-bit RGB codecs
by Blackmagic Design provide
significantly higher quality as compared
to 8-bit video. For the highest quality,
KONA also supports Blackmagic
Design's 10-bit video/16-bit RGB codecs*.
KONA-SD and KONA-HD will also
support many legacy 8-bit formats for
backward compatibility.
*requires 16-bit support from the
effects/graphics application, Adobe
After Effects 5.5 supports 16-bit.
The KONA-SD and KONA-HD* are
true real-time effects cards offering
standard cross dissolve, additive
dissolve, fade in fade out, dip to color,
and non-additive dissolve with software
updates for additional real-time effects.
Fast and efficient hardware gives you
responsive, fluid editing and eliminates
the need for rendering before going to
tape. And because KONA-SD and
KONA-HD are a native YUV design,
video output is in full resolution and
quality, with no limits on duration.
* KONA-HD requires a 66Mhz PCI
slot for dual-stream effects, Mac
G4 is currently a 33Mhz PCI bus.
Clarity in sight and sound - that's
the promise of the KONA-SD and HD.
Backwards compatible and future proof,
KONA cards offer native OS X six
channel*, 24-bit AES/EBU digital audio
at 48kHz to support 5.1 Dolby™ Digital
production. KONA-SD and HD audio
inputs include hardware sample-rate
conversion to allow asynchronous or
even different sample rates (32-96kHz),
eliminating annoying synchronization
hassles and unwelcome snaps,
crackles, and pops.
*Final Cut Pro 3 currently supports
2-channel audio only.
